Services
Ambient Labs is a small engineering studio for work that crosses boundaries: software, engineering tools, automation, connected equipment, and the physical systems around them. Here is what you can hire us to do.
Discuss a projectCustom Software & Operations Tools
Replace manual handoffs, brittle spreadsheets, and disconnected tools with software built around the way the operation actually works.
The spreadsheet worked great—until the whole operation started depending on it.
- Internal tools
- Workflow automation
- Scheduling and dispatch
- Data collection and reporting
- System integrations
- Customer or field portals
Connected & Edge Systems
Connect software to equipment, sensors, field devices, and systems that need to keep working outside a perfect cloud environment.
The equipment produces data, but nothing useful happens with it.
- Local compute
- Device communication
- Telemetry and monitoring
- Equipment integration
- Unreliable-connectivity design
- Field deployment
Engineering & Automation Tools
Turn repeatable technical work into software, automation, simulation, or purpose-built engineering tools.
Engineers and technicians repeat the same technical steps by hand, and nothing off the shelf fits.
- CAD and design automation
- Simulation and analysis tools
- Computer vision and AI workflows
- Robotics and motion systems
- Engineering workflow tools
Prototype → Production
Take something that works in principle and make it deployable, observable, maintainable, and understandable by the people who will own it.
The prototype worked. Now it has to run every day.
- Deployment and monitoring
- Documentation and handoff
- Failure handling and recovery paths
- Interfaces and APIs
- Training
Not every engagement needs every item. We scope the reliability work to what the project actually requires.
When teams call us
The spreadsheet became infrastructure
A spreadsheet, inbox, or collection of small tools worked fine until the operation started depending on it.
Too many steps happen by hand
People are moving information between systems, checking the same things repeatedly, or coordinating a workflow manually because nothing quite connects.
Software needs to meet the physical world
The system needs to communicate with equipment, sensors, field devices, machines, or unreliable networks.
The prototype worked
Now it needs deployment, monitoring, reliability, documentation, and a path to long-term ownership.
Off-the-shelf gets us most of the way there
Unfortunately, the remaining 20% is the part the operation actually depends on.
The project crosses disciplines
Part of the problem looks like software. Part looks like controls, equipment, edge computing, data, or engineering. Nobody owns the whole thing.
Things we've built
Our own products, built in the lab. They are not client case studies, but they show the engineering we bring to client work.
SiteRF →
Interactive RF modeling in the browser, from CAD floorplan import to client-ready reports.
FieldCAD →
Photo-based 3D reconstruction on GPU infrastructure, connected to parametric design and back-office workflows.
Jog Actuators →
Embedded motion control with simulation, firmware, and local limits and fault handling.
Tilly →
Production SaaS covering payments, messaging, scheduling, and CRM for non-technical users.
How engagements work
How hiring us actually happens.
1.
Understand the problem
We start with the workflow, constraint, or system you are trying to change. Sometimes the solution is obvious. Sometimes figuring out what should be built is part of the engineering work.
2.
Agree on the work
We define the immediate scope, technical approach, responsibilities, and budget model before substantial work begins.
3.
Build and review
We work in short iterations and review progress as the system develops, using working demonstrations where the project permits.
4.
Launch and hand over
Deployment, documentation, training, continued support, and ownership expectations are defined as part of the engagement.
Tell us what you're trying to build, automate, or fix.
